Botox for Migraines: Does It Work?If you have been diagnosed with migraine and get migraine headaches often, you may wonder if there’s anything you can do to prevent them.
OnabotulinumtoxinA, or Botox was approved in 2010 for adults who get chronic migraines. That means you have both:

  • A history of migraine headaches
  • Headaches (including tension-type) on most days (15 or more) of the month of which 8 are migraine

It won’t work for you if you:

  • Get headaches 14 or fewer days each month
  • Have other types of headaches, like cluster

Charities Fearful of New Tax Law

Our new tax law has many changes in it. It is, indeed, the largest piece of tax legislation since 1986 (and I know that some of you reading this weren’t even alive in 1986!). In any event, one of the provisions of this new tax law has many charities a bit concerned. Their concern is not without merit. Let’s explore what this is all about. A large number of taxpayers file a Schedule A (part of the Form 1040) and report their itemized deductions there. Itemized deductions include medical, taxes, interest, charitable and more. Basically, you get a choice. You can add up all of those items, total them up and see if it is worth it to report all of that on the tax return. Or…..you can simply take a standard amount that the government gives you. You can use whichever number is better for you. So, let’s look at an example.

Top 5 Mistakes People Make When Looking for a New JobThere are many ways to give yourself the best odds when you’re looking for a job — and just as many ways to ruin them. Here are five common mistakes that people make that keep them from getting the job of their dreams.

So Why Water after the Massage?First off, massages are dehydrating. Kneading and working muscle gets fluid pumping out of the soft tissue and into your circulatory system, where it heads toward your kidneys. That’s why many people have to pee right after a massage. (Naumann Carlstrom says some of her clients can’t get up from the table fast enough.) You have to replenish all that lost water – by drinking more.
Then there’s the issue of metabolic waste, which is produced by muscles in the course of everyday function. When your muscles are tight or you’ve got a major knot, it constricts circulation in those areas, inhibiting the body’s ability to flush out this waste. And, since tight muscles are probably what prompted you to make a massage appointment in the first place, changes are you’ve got some comprised circulation happening. Massage relaxes the tension, releasing the circulatory pathways and allowing nitrogenous metabolic waste to dump into the system. Drinking provides your kidneys with the water they need to effectively eliminate the newly liberated waste. So, once again, it comes back to pee.

Food for though from Mast Bros. TowingCheck your insurance coverage on your vehicle. A lot of people only have liability insurance on their vehicles, and no towing coverage. This can get expensive fast if you have a crash. Usually the difference between having liability insurance and full coverage is not a large jump in cost, and you are covered. Also making sure that you have towing coverage will save you during a break down or accident. Towing also usually covers lock outs and jump starts. Check with your insurance provider and make sure you are covered. An accident is just that, and they are never expected. Be prepared. Helpful hints provided by your friends at mast bros towing.

March 6 is National Dentist Appreciation Day!

No one know just who established this amazing holiday or when. Some say it was George Washington himself (mostly just Dr Holt says that, and he’s totally guessing!)
But it’s a real thing! Look it up!

What could possibly be the point of a National Dentist Appreciation Day, you wonder?

Well if we look at the most recent data in Oregon, we realize that significant barriers to oral health care still keep people from getting the care they need:
*Only 52% of pregnant women receive a dental visit during pregnancy
*Only 30% of pregnant women receive advice on infant tooth decay
*Only 37% of toddlers receive a dental visit
* 52% of elementary school children have cavities (treated and untreated)
*Only 73% of eighth graders see the dentist in a year
*About 10% of school children miss school because of dental problems

These are serious stats! As health care providers, we have some work to do. And we know that visiting the dentist can be daunting. But we also know that dentists are pretty easy to make fun of. We’re used to it, and yeah… we kinda like it. And a day when we can think about dentists and oral health in a fun and joking way is a great opportunity to remind folks of the importance of oral health and oral health care. We want people to remember that we are just like them, and we want to help.

So remember the dentists this month.
And if you haven’t visited a dentist in a while, call us up, and schedule an appointment.

Five Steps to Deciding How Much to Offer (Or Ask) For Your Home

One of the hardest, most important decisions home buyers face is how much to offer for their home. And the WEALTH of information on the web about real estate only makes buyers even crazier than the decision itself does. Supply, demand, foreclosure rates, mortgage rates – buyers think they need to run spreadsheets and do fancy math to make a smart offer. And THAT can be super intimidating.

Chiropractic massage is an excellent method for improving overall health and musculoskeletal efficiency. Massage has a number of beneficial effects on the body and the mind. Some of these include removal of toxins that can build up in the muscles of the body, increased circulation, and increased flexibility in not only the muscles, but also the connective tissue within the body.
